January Lightning

Lightning in January

leaving              [the heat of the city]

at 62º F            [in a violet-gray sky]

while the contemporary photographers

cling to the shadows

with fake light,

breaking the trees

into cornflower strings of thunder encouraged zig-zags

and college infected responsibilities

where the cows sing home;

and the springtime air feels odd in the winter.
